Day one, page one- but not to be mistaken for chapter one, in life... Not even close.
So where I do begin? A little sprinkle about myself... I was born in muddy waters~ on the Mississippi in Davenport, Iowa. As that was happening, there was higher plan unfolding for me. On a cold and wintery day in early November, my folks arrived! I was adopted at three days old and we jumped onto a plane... I soon found myself landing in Palos Verses, California literally over looking the waves of the sparkling~ Blue Pacific. This was my family and I was home. Fast forward a few years... Travels via my Dad's work took us up to Northern California. The best thing about this move~ Mike. This is where my brother joined our family. We were now complete. Mom and Dad~ a stunning black haired, Japanese American couple, myself a blonde haired ~blue eyed, fair skinned little girl and a now a gorgeous little guy with olive skin, brown hair and exotic gray eyes... Clearly, we were just the perfect all American family. We continued on with our traveling journey and ended up back East in a charming little town, Ridgefield Connecticut. It defiantly was not California~ but what it was, was a charming, old historical town. It's where I feel my life's lessons really began... A few years later, California was calling us back. Off we went... That didn't last too long. Tokyo, really? Uh, here we go. Yes, we were off to Tokyo, Japan for our next adventure. If you have never been there, just go. It's with out a doubt one of the most interesting and beautiful places on the planet, hands down. So anyways, lots more traveling around much of Asia and Australia, while we called Japan our home. Time to shake up life again... Sure, ok. So I left my family in Japan and headed to Massachusetts to attend an all girls boarding school. I could write an entire book on those years... Hmm, I might have to do that. A few years later we decided to try and get the family to live all together again, back in California... Dad would join us just as soon as he could, in a year or two. Life was now somewhat "Yoshida settled." Oh wait, one more go around with Dad moving to England and lots of fabulous trips to visit him took place before we all "Yoshida settled" in California, for good. Why on Earth would I spend so much time explaining my runaround back ground as a part of my story? For two reasons. One- It made me who I am today. Two- It taught me to never ever turn down and opportunity to travel... Be it a day trip to a town in your own state or to jumping on a plane and heading to the other side of our planet. Things are just thing. Traveling is golden... You know what the very best classrooms found on the planet are? They don't have desks, walls or teachers. They are the people, the towns, the exotic foods, the hand made arts, the conversations with strangers… Seeing how others live. It's the moment that we realize how fortunate we are. It's the hardships and triumphs of adjusting. It's the foreign and unfamiliar smells. It's the ever so vibrant colors of other cultures. It’s the exotic flavors of unfamiliar cuisine. It’s about getting lost and finding your way back, adventures... These are the real life lessons. Our planet is the class room that really counts. It's a class room that we all can be A+ student in, if we so choose. |
